I have a dynamic template with a left sidebar and would like to know if it is possible to have a text widget show up in that sidebar area instead of the default sidebar.
Not that I know of no. You would need to use the column element in the template and have one part of the column set as a widget area (bypassing the sidebar layout entirely).
That sounds like a good idea, Devin. If I use the column layout (e.g., 25%–75%), is it possible to have, say, the left 25% column contain the widget, and the right 75% column contain content of the newly created current post? I took a quick look at it, but it seems like you have to select from a pre-existing page or post to populate the right column.
