    Is there a way to do this. I uploaded an animated gif into the featured image but it is static.

    Thank you.

    GIF is not supported by wordpress. When you upload a GIF file, it will be cropped and converted to jpgs. You cannot set a GIF image as a featured image. What you can do is to upload the GIF image directly to a media folder then insert it manually:

    <img src="YOURIMAGE.gif" />

    Thanks for your response Ismael. I have used GIFs in posts which has worked before if the GIF is created at the actual size that it is displayed at (if the display size of the GIF is less than it’s original size it will appear as a jpeg), but what I really wanted to do was to have the option of creating animated featured images.

    Hi Byron,

    The only thing I can think of would be to replace the individual image within the media folder via FTP. The browser will animate a jpeg if its a gif as long as the information is there so just change the extension and replace the file after you upload.

    Thanks Devin, I will give that a try.
