Any idea when the new updates release to support WP 3.1?, someone here say will be out last week.

If yes, how can I get the latest updates that work with WP 3.1

    Thanks,

We’ll release an update notice. It’s ready soon but Kriesi wanted to make sure that all bugs will be adressed by the updates (not only W3.1 bugs) and delayed the release a bit.

You can get the update by downloading it from themeforest. Log in and go to the “Download” section.

That is really great news but will you include change notes?

It will be really usefull for us to maintain all customizations on the theme.

    Hey,

the update was released some days ago. A changelog is included (a file called version.rtf).

I just download the files again but still there is no reference that is compatible with WP 3.1

    The latest version notes are:

    Version 2.0.2

file: js/custom.js fixes a IE 9 issue with preloading images

    file:style.css: version number

Interesting – I thought the changelog contains the whole history. However here’s the changelog I got from Kriesi:

    ######################################################################
    #Newscast
    ######################################################################
    style.css: updated to version 2.0.1
    updated folder prettyphoto
    updated file framework/theme_plugins/kriesi_meta_box/kriesi_custom_field.js
css/style1,2,3,4.css: small changes between line 80 and 100 to fix some menu style bugs

Changelog is fine and complete. I added just the notes from the latest update. My concern here is that there is no reference that the version 2.0.2 is compatible with WP 3.1

Even in themeforest theme page says that the software version is WordPress 3.0

I’ll report it to Kriesi because all themes are WP 3.1 ready now :)

I was curious about this. If I download an updated theme and install it, will it break the customizations I’ve made? I spent so much time tweaking the CSS, don’t want to go through that again. I’ve hesitated to upgrade to WordPress 3.1 and get the updated Newscast theme for this reason.

As per your instructions, I logged into ThemeForest and downloaded the Newscast theme again. Do I install the theme the usual way, from the WP dashboard? I went to Appearance > Themes > Install Themes > Upload.

I opened the newscast.zip file and saw two files:

    _MACOSX

    newscast

Or is there a different procedure for installing an updated theme? This is my first time upgrading WordPress core and a theme. Thanks for your help.

    I uploaded always by FTP.

Then I read the version.rtf file and uploaded only the changed files.

Before I upload them, I compare them with Notepad++, this is a nice tool, where you can open 2 files next to each other and let them compare by the program.

Open your old theme file from FTP and the new file from the new NEWSCAST download package.

Then you’ll see changes, that you have made in the server file and can add them to the new updated file from Kriesi.

I do so with all my themes – it’s easy and I don’t need much time for changes ..

    @colorit,

Thanks for the advice! I like your approach. Yes, it’s smart to look at the version history. Kriesi does a good job of saying which files were changed and why. I’ll carefully read the version history to compare.

For version 2.0.1, Kriesi even says in style.css that it was only the code between line 80 and 100 that got changed. I can copy and paste that code into my style.css file, and preserve all my customizations. Great, this was exactly what I wanted to know.

Then I’ll FTP only the specific files that were updated into the theme folders on my web host. Hope this works smoothly!
