Hey,
You can use the menu manager to create your own menu. It can be found under Appearance > Menus. By using the menu manager you can link to categories (archives), pages posts and (external) links. An useful how-to can be found here: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/i-can%E2%80%99t-create-a-custom-menu-the-menu-behaves-weirdArchive pages are special templates (which are used by WP automatically if you want to display archives, categories, etc.). There's no need to create a dedicated page for an archive. Just link to one :)
