Is it possible to have the newest post full width (not full screen) or at least more prominent at the top and single, and then all the rest in grid form below that?

You can do this with the magazine element, it has an option for making the first post use a big image.
You can also do this with the regular blog posts element. You can use it twice in the page and give the second one an offset of 1 and then change the style for both of them.
