If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
Is there a way you can bring the blog posts a little closer together so there is not so much white space in between? And I have lost the link at the bottom of the posts that says read more…how do you limit your text so that the entire post isn’t shown on main blog page?
1) Add following code to css/custom.css (or the quick css field) and decrease the padding value:
2) You can use the read more shortcode/tag to create the excerpt. The read more tag is used like:
and I told him that he should get moving or I'd be
on him like a limpet. He looked at me with shock on
his face and said
more text goes here.....
If you use the visual editor you can also find the option/button in the editor toolbar/kitchen sink.
Everything worked great thanks. I did want to know how you can limit how much text shows up on the main blog page on the posts, so they have to click more to read the whole story? thanks
You can use the excerpt length filter – I’d use the code from the “example” section: http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/excerpt_length
I am still an amateur with adding code and filters. Where exactly would I need to put this in the functions.php?
At the very end (if there’s a ?> before it, otherwise just at the very bottom of the file).
