What does this avia.js function do? The 3.0.1 update rendered all my images invisible until rolled over. Commenting out this function fixed the issue.

It would be helpful know the purpose of this function so I can track down the problem. Will leaving it commented out cause any other issues?

    Hey Al!

    Thank you for using Enfold.

Do you mind if we take a look at the actual website? We would like to check it. It calculates the width of the mega menu container.

    Regards,
    Ismael

    Hello!

Thanks for the response! Seeing as the function deals with a mega menu container, commenting it out should not have an impact on me.

I’ve set up an administrator account for you. Credentials are attached to the private portion of this reply.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

    Hey!

Did you commented outthe calc_dimension line? I checked the website and the images show up fine. The page load speed is a bit slow because some of the image are not fully optimized. This image for example: http://www.alandersen.com/wp-content/uploads/20100529_084240_aba.jpg

The current file size of that image is 219 KB but I was able to reduced to 119KB. Usually minimizing the image file sizes and number of plugins that you install will greatly improve page load. These are the things that you can do to optimize the website speed and page load courtesy of the wordpress community:

    1. Optimize all images with AI/Photoshop before uploading to server ‘save as web safe’ jpg
    2. Once all images are on the website optimize with ewww optimizer plugin twice 1hr 10mins apart.
    3. Install wp-smushit run once to remove jpeg extra data, then uninstall.
    4. Use BWP minify plugin to minify scripts and stylesheets.
    5. Install WP-Super cache, select all recommended settings.
    6. Logout your website, visit every page at least once to create super cache files.
    7. Join Cloudflare setup your website on their CDN, Choose options: Full CDN Optimisation save then activate purge files. once done log out.
    8. Have a cup of coffee.
    9. Visit your site after 20 minutes or so.
    10. Don’t forget to smile.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

Thanks for taking a look. Yes, as noted in my previous private response with the login credentials, the call to calc_redimensions is commented out. I can’t have my website “disabled” for any long length of time. Seeing as coordinating a time for me to enable the function call is not feasible, I’ve uploaded my cpanel credentials so you can change the file yourself.

As for the slow image loads, I’m aware of the issue, which is two-fold.

    2) WordPress is kind of stupid when it comes to image sizes. It thinks that pulling a smaller-sized image into a larger size frame is OK, and it’s not because that reduces the sharpness of the image. To stop having my thumbnails being softened I’ve had to force WordPress to use the original size image which is usually about 1024×768 and between 200k to 300k. As you noted, this slows my page load times. Image sizing is something I need to look at more, but simply havn’t had time to do yet due to other pressing issues.

    21) My hosting server is very slow. That’s why I use Cloudflare and also plan on moving my site to inmotionhosting.com in the future. Cloudflare as been a tremendous help with faster page loads. I’m hoping inmotionhosting will be another significant improvement. The move to inmotion is being delayed until I resolve a few more issues with my site, like this one.

I will look at the optimization plugins you recommended. Thanks for the list.

    Hi,

I couldn’t really note the issue, i tried doing the following:

Once uncommented, go to any gallery, use the arrows to go forward several images, and then go backward. When the image disappears, roll over it with the mouse to make it reappar.

But your galleries are opening on individuals pages.

    Hey!

As you noted, the problem is not showing up. That’s probably due to the fact that I started using Cloudflare to speed my site up so we’re seeing cached data, meaning that uncommenting the function call will not have an immediate effect.

I’m afraid we’ll have to close this bug report out because there’s no way for you to investigate it without me crippling my site for an extended period of time, which I don’t want to do.

And yes, my gallery images open on a customized image.php file created with the Avia editor. I don’t believe that’s the cause of the problem though, seeing as the full-screen slider has the same problem.

Regardless, please go ahead and close this bug report out for I can work around the problem by not using the calc_dimensions function.

Thanks for trying to help, and for clarifying what the function does.
