i have added one image to the slider for the news page, set to full width and global default for page, and the image doesn't show up, so i also tried making a template with the builder - still can;t get my news page to display the post and a single slider image, above

The blog template itself does not support a slideshow. If you want to use the template builder create a template with a slideshow element and a "blog" element. Then create a page (or edit an existing one), upload/set the slideshow image and select the dynamic template as page template. Afterwards save the page. Also make sure that this page is NOT set as blog page (Choices > Theme Options) because we won't to use the dynamic template for this page and not the standard blog template.
