For some reason, my categories just disappeared on my main portfolio page. They still exist in my dashboard and are linked to specific portfolio items. However, they do not appear in the heading anymore. It currently only displays “All”.

I’m sorry but I’m not entirely sure of the issue. If you don’t mind, please post the website url so that we can inspect it. Did you add any plugins prior to the issue? Please deactivate all plugins, see how it goes.
I just updated three plugins yesterday. However, when I deactivated them, still nothing changed.

Will this solve my issue about the categories?
The only reason I am hesitant to update it now, is because when I updated it last time, some of my pages got messed up. Thankfully, one of your colleagues was able to log in to my account and fix it. Do you think it has anything to do with the new wordpress update?
Yes, updating the theme will fix compability issues with new version of WordPress. I do not think it will mess up any of your content. If it does, let us know so we can take a look
