    I created a portfolio category “Videos” and some portfolio items to be shown in this category. There is no further content in the portfolio items, only a preview image and a youtube-link. Then I created a page to show the portfolio items of this category. By clicking on the preview images the videos start playing, which is exactly what I wanted.

    But I want to eliminate the “read more” buttons for this category because there is no further content.

    In addition I created a sidebar widget to display the latest portfolio entries of this category “videos”.

    Now the “latest videos” link directly to the portfolio-entry, which in this case is confusing because there is no content and the visitor doesn’t know how to view the announced video. I would like to link directly to the category page (the one which contains the preview images) and simultaneously open the chosen video in the lightbox. Is that possible?

    Hi,

    The ‘read more’ on portfolio item page can be found in /includes/loop-portfolio-single.php on line 47 that looks like this

    the_content(__('Read more','avia_framework').'<span class="more-link-arrow">  →</span>');

    You can add two forward slashes in front of that line //

    or remove it. (unless you are using the sliding ajax portfolio….)

    If you have that above line on a different line number, and never edited that file before, then it means you need to install the latest theme update from themeforest.net

    As for the rest of your request, would you mind providing a url where you have this setup (you can mask it using http://www.goo.gl) and point out what you need to go where, because otherwise this will turn into a fruitless guessing game. A screen shot with some arrows would also help out greatly.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    This link goes to the overview page with the videos http://goo.gl/xUQ1k.

    If you scoll down the page to the footer, you will find a sidebar widget called “latest videos”. If you click on one of the links beneath, you will see it leads to an almost empty page, respectively the portfolio-entry. Instead I want them to lead to the page where you are at the moment and to open the equivalent video automatically.

    As to your reply concerning the “read more” button: of course I can comment out the mentioned code but I need it for the other categories.

    Hope you understand what i mean.

    Regards

    Hi,

    But what would you like it to play? The link points to a portfolio item page that needs to have a video that is associated with that portfolio item. Right now you have no video associated with that portfolio item, so even if I changed the code, there still would be no video to play when someone clicks the link.

    Reference: Needs modified code to be added around line 540 of class-frameword-widgets from around lines 380-385 of same file, and to display instead of the get_permalink() to display the youtube url to video as a link with an addition of rel=”lightbox[grouped] to the anchor tag

    thanks,

    Nick

    ok, for eliminating the “read more” button, I found a solution myself by editing the template_portfolio.php. On line 193 I changed

    .

    to

    Code:
    if ($overview_post_id!=123) {
    echo ““.__(‘Read more’,’avisio’).”“; }

    I did associate a video with that portfolio item. In the backend I entered a video link at the ” Full Size Pic/Video Input field”. The page I sent you the link ( http://goo.gl/xUQ1k) for shows the preview images of every portfolio item and by clicking on it the associated video opens in the lightbox.

    Unfortunately I don’t understand the rest of your answer. Everything you write after “Reference” seems to be the answer to my request but appears to me quite hieroglyphic.

    Hi,

    Compare the widget Latest Videos, with the widget News. In the News widget there is an image next to every item, while in the Videos widget there are none. When I go to the portfolio item pages (click the links in the latest videos widget) i find nothing there (no videos are attached) and that is why there is no images in the widget.

    You want the lightbox with the video to open playing the video if someone clicks a Latest Video Link, correct? You do not want the person clicking the link to be taken to the portfolio item page. I was asking if you could attach a video so that the Latest Video widget would contain it because I need to see the code, otherwise I would have to create all this on my home installation.

    Would it be ok with you if the Latest Video links in the widget are clicked on any page, they would open a lightbox right on that page and play the videos?

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Ok, I added the “featured image” and as I did so, I remembered, I did it before and that in the database I added the post_parent to each portfolio entry and with that I could create the same side menu which appears on the video overview page ( http://goo.gl/xUQ1k).

    My aim is to show the visitor all available videos after he clicked one. So this would be my second choice solution to show the visitor the titles of the other videos in the sidebar menu.

    First choice would still be the solution I asked you for.

    No, I would prefer the overview page to open first and after that the lightbox, so that one can click through all available videos within the lightbox.

    If this is too difficult, maybe it is easy for you to change the database input for newly created portfolio entries in the way that the category is automatically added to the field post_parent, so I could stick to solution no. 2 without adding the category by hand.

    Hi,

    I am fairly sure its possible to do this by playing the clip on the same page (what you don’t want) without sacrificing a lot of time and having to recode multiple pages, while your choice # 1 will require some programming and changes that are time intensive.

    I will add this to Kriesi’s list of user requested updates. Otherwise you could always get a developer for a few hours as many are familiar with the framework enough to do it in a few hours.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Well, I suppose, changing the database input is not a question of editing the theme but the wordpress core and not easy at all. Otherwise you would have mentioned it. In this case I will leave everything as it is and keep fumbling in the database myself.

    Thanks for adding my request to Kriesi’s list and thanks for your patience.
