If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
Hello – I have been working on my site with the URL of pizzazzgifts.com/temp. In the meantime, I have a live website (just a page really) at pizzazzgifts.com.
I would now like the new site to be “live” by removing “temp” from the backend of the URL. I also have other pages and images that have temp in their URL as I have built the site. Please advise on how this can be accomplished. I have been working in the custom.css file etc., so I am comfortable doing things like that, but I DO need it to be explained pretty clearly.
Thank you for your help.
You need the be familiar with sql database tools if you want to change the url. Export the database to an sql file, open this file with a text editor (notepad++, sublime 2 or any editor which works for you), then replace all occurences of pizzazzgifts.com/temp with pizzazzgifts.com and import the sql file again. I can’t tell you how the export/import process works because this depends on the server configuration. Maybe ask your hoster for help if you’re not sure how to perform these tasks. Afterwards move the wordpress installation (the wordpress files) from the temp directory to the main server directory or point your domain address to the temp folder (not recommended).
Thank you! I emailed HostGator to ask for directions on how to accomplish this with their service, and they did the switching over for me! Very grateful for all the wonderful help I have received from you guys and HostGator.
My journey continues . . .
