I created a child theme for Enfold as directed in docs I found from you. It is in themes folder called enfold-child. I populated styles.css (in the child directory) with custom css. I imported settings from parent theme. I activated child theme. Everything looks fine EXCEPT (1) All the font is in green, not gray as in the parent theme and (2) the footer is missing. See http://watermanusa.staging.wpengine.com for how it looks with the child theme. http//watermanusa.com for how it’s supposed to look.

    How can I fix this?

    Hi,

Thanks for the details, I can’t see any green text on your front page though. Could you try to explain a bit further what specific text you are having problem with please?

    Regards,
    Rikard

We got it fixed, someone else helped me.
The issue is that when the child theme is created it does NOT carry forward all the styles & settings of the parent theme; it does not carry forward the footer AT ALL. I had to manually recreate the footer by seeing how it was set up in the parent & moving widgets; messy but I got it done.

I thought the whole idea of the child theme was to specifically inherit all the settings of the parent unless EXPLICITLY overriden in the child.
    Doesn’t work in Enfold.

    Hi,

Great, glad you got it working. I’m not sure what settings you had and where so it’s difficult to say what went wrong. Using a child theme with Enfold works the same way as with any other theme.

There is another issue. I cannot get the child theme general styling to be like the parent theme. I could show you EXACTLY the issue, but you do not allow images to be attached. I’m sure there is a way to do it, but I can;t figure it out. I want the Alink & Hovered link colors to be greyscale.

Look at watermanusa.com for the desired colors (parent theme).

Look at watermanusa.staging.wpengine.com for the child theme (red tone on links).

    Thanks

    Hi,

Parent theme settings can be imported from Enfold > Import/Export

You can upload the screenshot to imgur.com or dropbox and share the link here :)

    Best regards,
    Vinay

Yes, we did that. It does not work, we are guessing because of restrictions imposed by the host, WPEngine.

I’ll try to get you the images

    Hi,

After the import, you should wait for a few seconds because it will automatically save and refresh the theme options. You don’t need to click the “Save Changes” button. If you do, the import process will fail. Please try it again. Import the theme options then wait for the page to refresh.

So you are saying to start over, delete the child theme I have built that I had to customize the footer, put a LOT of custom CSS is because it did NOT copy settings from the parent?

Then if it does the same thing again, I have to re-do all my custom css, widgets in the footer, etc.?

I don’t think so, I’m 90% sure it will fail again. I have it 95% (or more) to where all the styling is like the parent.

A WordPress guru I know thinks it’s because of WPEngine

    Hi,

well then check out with the guys from WPEngine, cause it works for us and it worked for thousands of other customers.

    Hi guys!!

This is the first time I have seen this happen. And I have installed a LOT of Child Themes. Not on WPEngine. I don’t think it’s a host issue but it is very strange. I tried to add a Child theme to one of my sites (that’s been on Enfold for like 2 years) and I can see the colors properly imported on the settings of the Child but that is not reflecting when you look at the page.

The blue looks green, the small menu bar has different dimensions and colors. and even if I try to manually modify it.

    Check it out:

    Child theme: https://imgur.com/Q2te8In

    Strange, right?

I left it as the Parent theme, but feel free to switch it (this site is my little battle horse and doesn’t have much traffic. Sending you the credentials on Private Reply.

Let me know how I can help!

    Warmly,

    Havi

    Hi Havi,

Did you make sure to clear you browser cache and reload the site? If that doesn’t work, then please try to change a few value in the theme options and save again. That usually works for most sites.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Thank you, Rikard!!! It did the trick!! I had to restart the computer itself but finally the cache was cleared (in my computer) and I can see it all works as it always has!!

    Thank you so much!!

Wishing you and the team a very happy holiday season!!

    Hi Havi,

Great, glad you got it working. Rebooting stuff usually helps :-)

    Happy holidays to you too!

    Best regards,
    Rikard
