    I’m wondering if there is a way to tell Choices to display the top of the image in the thumbnail grid, rather than the center. I’m using the portfolio for web pages I’ve designed, and it looks odd to see a snapshot of the center a page, rather than the top. Where is the code that I might change?

    Less importantly: I’d like the greyscale thumbnail display to change to color upon hover. This feature isn’t occurring on the page I’m working on, for some reason…

    Both issues can be seen in development here:

    As always, thank you for your quick response.

    It is being cropped. You can find the code on functions.php

    $avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio_small'] = array('width'=>241, 'height'=>179 ,'copy'=>'greyscale'); // images for portfolio 4 columns

    Try to replace it with

    $avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio_small'] = array('width'=>241, 'height'=>179 ,'copy'=>'greyscale', 'crop'=>false); // images for portfolio 4 columns

    Regenerate the thumbnails:

    The other workaround is to replace the image manually on wp-content/uploads/2012/09/, look for the images with this name.

    Please add this on your custom.css

    .slideshow_media_wrap a:hover > img.filtered-image {
    z-index: 0 !important;

    Hey – thanks for the quick response. The CSS worked great for the hover effect – thanks for that.

    The thumbnail regeneration worked as well, but now the thumbnails are ridiculously blurry and not cropped at all. Is there no way to have the cropped affect without the snapshot coming from the center (aside from manually doing so)?

    Thanks again for your help. We’re getting there!

    Please reset your functions.php then regenerate thumbnails again.

    As stated above, the other workaround is to replace the image manually on wp-content/uploads/2012/09/.

    The manner in which the crop is made is dictated by WordPress Core and not influenced by Choices. The only way that I can think of (besides doing it yourself manually) that you can influence the position of the crop is by use of plugins. I briefly looked and this seems to do what you ask

    You can also browse the category of plugins that fall into what you require here

    Ah – alright. This gives me a few things to play around with. Thanks for your advice. I’ll mark this as resolved.
