In order to have a Media Element above my blog posts all as part of the same home page I created a special page called “home” and then inserted the blog posts as a Content Element below. Within the “Blog Posts” content element I notice there are 2 options: having each post shown in its entirety, or having them automatically cut down to excerpts with a “read more” link.

I would like to have excerpts of my blogs on my home page, but in the case that my post contains a video, I would like to have this video show within the excerpt. As of now, it is being automatically left out, and all the remains is a small chunk of text with the “read more”.

I was able to control the length of excerpts before by individually inserting the “read more” line where I wanted within each post, but now that I have my blog shown as a “content element” within a page it seems that I’m left only with the choice of showing each post in its entirety, or of having them automatically resized into excerpts (which omit videos or pictures).

Is there a way around this?

    Hey bhaydock!

Excerpts don’t support html or video rendering within WordPress unfortunately. You might be able to use a plugin to change how excerpts are rendering but I don’t know of any that will for sure effect the themes elements though in theory since its using the_excerpt then one which changes that filer should work.

    Hi Devin,
I decided to stick with the auto-excerpts and just put up screenshots as a featured images above each post containing video. At any rate, this should at-least help reduce the homepage loading time. Thanks for your reply!

    Hi!

What type of Blog Style do you have? Have you tried selecting a different post formats like video or image format?

    Hi Ishmael,
I have a multi-author blog style, I tried selecting the “video” format on my post containing an imbedded video, but the content shown in the excerpt did not change. The only thing that changed was that instead of my gravatar showing in the bubble to the left, there was the video image icon.
