Hello, I am not a developer….all self taught, so please speak in laymans terms!

My website- http://www.studentathleteworld.com/- has been running extremely slow for a few days.

HostMonster says it is not them and gave me this report, http://gtmetrix.com/reports/studentathleteworld.com/oAwPY1Hi.

I added WP-Totcal Cache and W3-Optimize plugins to help, and it did help some but is still way too slow. They said it could be a problem with my theme?

Any ideas on what to try of how to fix? Thanks! Tim

    Hi timryerson,

Only use a single caching plugin, the two will cause issues. As is I’m getting a few javascript errors which look like they stem from compressing the javascript files.

WordPress by itself isn’t quick. when you add in a theme, plugins and lots of content it starts to get weighed down. Using a caching plugin will do wonders but ultimately if you are using a budget hosting service you aren’t going to get great response times from the server and your database.

There are a lot of articles via google on optimizing wordpress and that is your best choice other than switching servers. Cloudflare or amazon hosting of images are good options as well but it takes a degree of know-how to get them set up.

    Regards,

    Devin

    Hi!

W3TC already supports a “database cache” – check the “features” list here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/

I’d remove the WP-Totcal Cache plugin.

    Best regards,

    Peter
