I have a question,
How can I place some custom content in the home page as pointed out in the image below:
Right now the content is linked from a page through the build-in mainpage content feature. Is there any way to have stuff in there without it being linked from a page?

This the way the theme is designed, you can make the modifications you want by editing index.php though.
