If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
I’m re-posting this as I haven’t received a response in several days and I have a client who’s waiting on a site to be finished.
My site: http://broadstonemedia.net/wp/‘
Maybe I’m missing something simple but I can’t figure out this normally simple task and your documentation gives no instruction on how to do this.
How do I edit the footer columns? I want to to edit or delete the column entitled “Bookmarks” and delete the Archives and Category footers and replace them with other titles/links
I’ve been told to drag widgets into the Footer columns sections (Footer-column4 etc) but this doesn’t make sense to me since these areas can’t be moved or deleted. I don’t see a widget for this? I don’t want to add any other widgets into the footer, just edit the one’s I have existing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
You can do the manual edit on the footer.php file of the template.
But normally, this is did on the widget area.. Any widget that you drop on the area of footer, will replace the actual.
Jordan is correct, those widgets are the default widgets just to give a new install a bit more of a completed look. You will need to add in any widgets into the footer area in Widgets to replace the default ones and to provide the easiest customization. Otherwise, you’ll need to edit the php files and do all the wordpress hooks by code.
