I am sure this has been asked before….But how do I make the Blog page only show the excerpts of articles?

    Thanks.

I have looked through previous threads and suggestions. I have checked the loop-index.php and the coding is there that should make the excerpts work. But it doesn’t.

For the time being I can just add <!–more–> in the article the make this happen. But this is really only a short term solution as there will be various contributors to the blog.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

    Thanks again

    Hey!

The more tag is the default wordpress solution to seperate the excerpt from the content – eg see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_content

    Best regards,

    Hey Peter

Yes I already know that <!–more–> is the wordpress default solution. I am only using it because the theme is not automatically doing it. It is showing all of the article on the blog page instead of just an excerpt.

I thought the theme was supposed to automatically do this. Is this not the case?

    Thanks again.

    Hi alderinos,

Try going to Settings > Reading and check the Summary checkbox for “For each article in a feed, show”.

Thanks for that. I see now why blog excerpt doesn’t work.

I have created 3 blog style templates. One is a straight blog, one a food blog and one an educational blog. So checking the option in Readings for the posts to appear on blog makes all of the posts appear there. So unless there is another option I will have to do the old fashion method of inserting the more tag.

Maybe you know of a way?

    As always, thanks.

    Hi alderinos,

Not that I know of. In some themes there is an auto cut function based on lines/words to break up where the excerpt should be and others recognize the excerpt block but with most of Krieisi’s he just used the <!–more–> for simplicity.
