    Hi,
I am a Wrodpress web developer with over 200 sites – all of them WordPress.
The site http://www.gtb.co.nz was completed and handed over abut 2 weeks ago, with the latest version of Enfold – 3.02. It was working perfectly when it was handed over.
Last week, the last section in the home page – Expertise failed to show the logos. The client, who has now taken over the site, has been asked to update the theme to 3.0.4.
I do understand that the themes are continually being improved for better functionality. However, it is difficult to defend WordPress when a site which was working perfectly well, suddenly stops functioning. This essentially works against the spirit of a low-maintenance CRM software.
This is not a concern that a maintenance resource can handle.
I request that this be referred to Kreisi’s attention.
    Cheers

    Hi Mohan-Iyer!

    Thank you for using Enfold.

I’ll ask Kriesi to take a look. You can disable the WP auto update and I’m sure you know how to do that. If I am not mistaken, theme developers such as yourself will see the latest versions, bug fixes, changes, addons once they are publicly released unless they are part of the WordPress core team which I doubt because they are too busy with the theme as it is. So only after the public release, theme developers will be able to see update issues and fix them.

    Cheers!

    Hi!

I do understand the concern. The first problem of this release was that wp 4.01 had no beta version which we could test against so we were caught by surprise as well. Its also the first time I can remember that a minor update broke something, so I hope this is not going to happen again soon.

For major upgrades: Usually we are able to solve any issues weeks before a new major wordpress update was released.

Other than that I can of course only recommend to update regularly but it pretty much depends on WordPress and the changes they incorporate if a theme update will be necessary. I can remember that from Enfold Version 1.0 to (I think) 2.9 no theme updates were required at all if you didnt need the new features and now we had two mandatory updates in a row with WP version 4 and 4.01.

We try to code with WordPress best practices in mind so things stay backward compatible as long as possible but from time to time a theme update will always be necessary…

    Hi Kreisi,
Thanks for the reply. I understand this may be a one-off issue.
You have restored my confidence in WordPress and particularly Enfold.
Just bought a copy of Replete. Itching to put it to use for a large eCommerce website.
    Cheers
