One of the things that attracted me to the theme was the gallery section http://www.kriesi.at/themes/coalition/#gallery
I have searched through the support section but its not helping, What I want to create is the gallery as created on the coalition gallery page. Where there is the thumbnail grid and when an image is selected it opens in the lightbox feature.
I understand that I have to attach the images to that page which I have done. The shortcode I have found used by others which is placed in the content area is this
[gallery columns="7" size="thumbnails" order="desc" order by="ID"]
A little help would be appreciated

Yes, that is correct. What you are doing is just using the built in wordpress gallery function.
When you are viewing the attached images in the pop up, you should see a tab called “Gallery” with a number next to it indicating the images attached to it. Select that tab then hit Insert and a large blue box with a picture icon should get inserted into the visual editor. Publish the page just to make sure its working correctly.
Then you can modify the gallery to use 7 columns and finish it up.
If you are still having issues with it, create a temporary admin account for me and i’ll log in and take a look. Just make sure to specify the page you are working on.

Thanks for your reply, I understand your logic as with other themes I have used in the past Ive gone to the shortcode dropdown button and selected the item e.g.. gallery, I want to add but I dont have the short code gallery available in that menu with this theme so I havent had the pop up window that normally appears, would explain why I am so confused. Should there be a gallery selection available with the shortcode menu ?
All I have done is to attach the images and copy and paste the code, the images appear in the content but with any organization.

It is not part of the theme but instead it is a built in shortcode of WordPress.
When looking at the visual editor, just above the toolbar you should see “Upload/Insert” and then an icon. Click on that icon to get the image popup (part of wordpress).
From there, one of the tabs should be Gallery where you can arrange and modify the images attached to the post/page and then insert it into the page.

No worries, we all start somewhere and unfortunately with wordpress so many terms are very close in name. So its really easy to get down the wrong path.
Also, I believe now that I’m thinking about it again the gallery shortcode you originally posted needs to be put in the HTML tab of the visual editor instead to generate properly.
