closed resolvedThe icon of the little house that I'm guessing should take me to the home page is actually taking me to a category page that I added to my custom wordpress menu. Also there are no posts showing on the homepage anymore this may have something to do with this error?
I've recently installed the wp-ratings plugin which in the process of installing I made sure that I'd deactivated the theme and then reactivated it once I'd installed it. The issue seems to have come about after this process?

in the custom menus make sure the first one to home page
simply follow the following
wp-admin
menus
then add custom link title Home and the link to front page
make sure it will be the first in the menu arrangement
like the example below
