I’m having the hardest time getting the theme to work properly. The home page looks nothing like the demo. It doesn’t have the square images listed on the home page when it initially loads. I have to choose the gallery category for it to load what I need.
A bit of history:
I have the latest version of WordPress.
Prior to these theme I tried the Essentials theme I downloaded from ThemeForest.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get the gallery to load automatically on the home page when someone first visits it? Here is the URL http://www.wowthatisugly.com.
please check if you set a static frontpage (WP admin panel > Settings > Reading ). If yes, deselect the static frontpage and wordpress will use the right theme template/index.php file.
That worked. That you! However, when I press on the home button it doesn’t take me to the gallery – like on your demo version. It takes me to another page. I tried deleting that page but it gives me an 404 error. How to I permanently make the gallery the home page.
The other option…if it’s possible is to have a static page and move the gallery to a permanent sub page. Is that possible?
One more thing. The images in the homepage gallery are distorted (squished). How do I fix that?
1) You can create a custom menu (Appearance > Menu) – just add any menu item(s) you like to the menu. For the home link I’d create a simple link which points to the main domain/frontpage.
2) Yes – but it requires some work. You can duplicate index.php and at the very top (after <?php) add following code:
Template Name: Gallery
Now you can apply this template to any subpage you like.
Beautiful. Both suggestions worked perfect…now I have to decide what I want. :-)
Thank you for the info! You rock.
