How do I decrease the space at the bottom of content in the main container?

I'd like to decrease the space between the bottom of the content in the main container and the footer (or in this case sub-footer area as we have decided not to use the footer). The site is:
http://africaaustralasiaconference.com/
Client wants less white space at the bottom of the text. Have had a look through style.css and changed
#main{ /*main area, contains all content and sidebars*/
float: left;
padding-bottom: 10px;
width: 100%;
}
In Containers but hasn't made much/any difference. (see padding-bottom: 10px)

    padding: 0px;
}
```
