If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
My site is currently running Flashlight 1.5.2 and would like to update to version 2.2.1 as Im having some issues with the site and Woocommerce plugin. Hoping the update will fix all.
How can I update the them to its most current version without losing all the products, media library, pricing, etc I’ve created on my site already?
You can use this method:
Kindly backup your database first, you can use this as a reference: http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database
Next, backup the theme files.
You shouldn’t worry much about the content as it is stored inside the database and won’t be changed during an update, however, just for precaution we need to backup first. As for the theme files you must back this up especially if you have done some customizations like in custom.css or functions.php as this will be lost.
Updating theme can be done by simply switching your theme to other themes like twentyeleven, then replace the old flashlight theme with the new theme you have downloaded from themeforest, switch the theme again to flashlight. Finally, add the customizations that you have made.
Hope this helps :)
I have done both backups.
I did a database backup through my cpanel and then a theme backup through “cyberduck”
I did everything you mentioned but I am just a little confused on how to impliment my changes on to the updated theme! Sorry if this seems obvious, I just have no idea!
Thank you so much!
Updating is exactly like installing except you are using newer files. So once you have the newest version from your downloads on themeforest, unzip that main folder you just downloaded and inside you’ll have the documentation, license etc. There will also be “flashlight.zip”.
You can use the wordpress admin to upload and install that zip file or unzip the file and upload via FTP right on top of the old theme files.
