If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
The very first footer colum saying: “Interesting links… enjoy” and so on is nice, bute pretty useless to me.
I would like to get rid of it and have 3 or 4 colums from the box menu in the backend instead.
Is it possible to do that?
I know that if you go into widgets and drag one into footer Column one it gets rid of the text, Im unsure how to do it otherwise.
You need to remove the dummy widget code. Open up footer.php and remove following code:
this kills the hole footer! I just want to kill colum 1 (Interesting Links)
Did I do something wrong?
Try this: Change the file back from Peter’s changes. Now go to your Them settings> Footer. Change the number to how many columns you want.
Now to go Appearance>Widgets and add a text widget to footer column 1. Don’t add anything to it but hit Save.
I already figured out that workaround myself ;-)
But: This leaves Column 1 blank! Of course I would like to fill it with the themes-column-content ;-)
So this is nice, but not quite perfekt! ;-)
Any suggestions!? (I mean: who needs the “Interesting Links-Text anyways!?)
The only solution would be to edit the dummy widget code itself (eg duplicate the “case 2” code into “case 1”, etc.).
The code can be found at the bottom of sentence/includes/admin/register-widget-area.php
