Hi Kriesie/everyone, as this is my first post and I am No-Pro at all, and my grammarr probably sucks to, so please bare with me.
What I like to get achieved is to include a categorie on the ‘Mainpage Content Area’.
What the problem is, I excluded multiple categories so that they don’t show on the main page area.
Now I made a categorie which I called “Featured” and that would be the only categorie for the main page.
The big problem is that I assigned posts to multiple categories, like: categorie “Featured” and “Categorie one”.
I excluded “Categorie one” from the main page and now posts don’t show up on the homepage, because I excluded “categorie one”,
though I did not exclude “Featured” and it still won’t show on the homepage.
Anyone know if there is any way around this? And if it’s not clear what i’m asking please tell, so I can try to make myself more clear.
Im talking about the Newscast 4 in 1 theme btw.
Thanks in advance!March 22, 2011 at 10:26 am #42749
The quick way to display content from one category is to change the query in index,php so that instead of excluding categories it simply calls the featured category.
Open up index.php and find this code:
$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=".$negative_cats."&paged=$paged");
replace it with:
$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=123&paged=$paged");
then update 123 to the ID of the featured category.
This would not change based on the settings in the theme options so any future adjustments would need to be made in index.php.

Hi James Morrison,
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I did exactly what you mentioned, but it doesn’t seem to work correct.
The mainpage show’s 4 featured items while I want to show 6 featured items on the frontpage.
I’m talking about the “Article Appearance” option where I entered 6, so that 6 items are shown before articles are shown half sized.
The bigger problem here is when I want to go to ‘page 2’ true the pagination, I get a “Nothing Found” error.
This doesn’t happen on archive pages by the way, there the pagination works fine.
I hope you understand what I mean, and again thanks for the quick response.

ive used this technique and it seems to be working for me, thanks.
the only thing is that my sticky post in the featured category is not at the top now…under construction post
is there a way to make sure that the sticky post in the featured category is always at the top?March 27, 2011 at 10:11 am #42752March 28, 2011 at 6:04 am #42753
try following code:
$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=123&paged=$paged&ignore_sticky_posts=0");March 28, 2011 at 7:25 am #42754
This post has also solved my issue that I posted earlier today!
I also have the problem of the pagination at the bottom of the front page that links to “Nothing Found”. Archive pages are fine, just not the front page.
Can we turn off pagination JUST for the front page?March 28, 2011 at 7:51 am #42755
I answered your question in the original thread: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/order-front-page-stickiesMarch 29, 2011 at 1:02 pm #42756
thanks for the code
$additional_loop = new WP_Query(“cat=25&paged=$paged&ignore_sticky_posts=0”);
category 25 is my featured category.
this still doesnt move the sticky post to the top for me.March 29, 2011 at 10:01 pm #42757
if you look now you will see it at the top but only because i changed the date of the publish to be the latest. thats not going to last for long :)March 30, 2011 at 6:08 am #42758
