    Hi,

    how can I show the single portfolio items like in the demo here

    http://www.kriesi.at/themes/velvet/portfolio-item/lorem-ipsum-2/

    as fullwidth page?

    When editing such a portfolio item, then there is no option for setting it to fullwidth – as for example on “normal” blog posts.

    UPDATE:

    I have found this forum post http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/portfolio-sidebar-wp-ml

    you can create a custom template (which will be fullwidth) by using the template builder – just use the page/post element (and the slideshow element) to create a fullwidth portfolio entry template. Afterwards select this template for your portfolio entries.

    but I don’t understand how to do this, concerning which page to assign to what in the template builder, because:

    • I have created a page A for the portfolio overview
    • Then I have created my portfolio items.
    • At “theme options” –> “portfolio” at “Which page should display the portfolio?” I have set there my page A.

    How should it work now with the template builder to get the single portfolio items to full width?

    • I have created a new blank page, called “fullwidthportfolio-template” with nothing in it, just set to “full width”
    • In the template builder I created a new template “fullwidthportfolioitem” and assigend there this just created new blank fullwidth page.
    • But how comes now the single portfolio item in it, to full width??

    I’m really confused how to do this with the template builder …

    Could you give me please a detailed step-by-step instruction? … another easier solution is appreciated ;-)

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    I just tried a few things and making a template for full single portfolio items would require a lot of work changing numerous pages with uncertain consequences elsewhere in the theme (something unknown may break).

    I looked at the instructions from that link you posted only after I did the workaround below, so I haven’t tried it.

    However, what worked for me is a bit dirty, but with two modifications its quick ugly and painless.

    The way this would work, is after you insert the code below, you would get a Custom Fields section on the pages where you create individual portfolio items. and on the pages you want the sidebar, you leave it alone. But if you want a portfolio item page without the right sidebar, you would enter portfolio-item-full with yes for value.

    Look at these 4 images please:

    http://imgur.com/a/GgZ36, the colors represent the steps.

    To get started:

    *) Please open register-portfolio.php theme file in the velvet/includes/admin directory (and after backing up the file) replace on line 31

    'supports' => array('title','thumbnail','excerpt','editor','comments')

    with

    'supports' => array('title','thumbnail','excerpt','editor','comments','custom-fields')

    *) Please open single.php at the root of the blog and replace (after making a backup of the file) on line 94-100 or so this code block

    <?php
    $avia_config['currently_viewing'] = "blog";
    //get the sidebar
    get_sidebar();
    ?>

    with

    <?php
    $avia_config['currently_viewing'] = "blog";
    //get the sidebar
    if (!get_post_meta($post->ID, "portfolio-item-full", true)) get_sidebar();
    ?>

    Ok. Thats it. Now if you want page to have no sidebar. just enter portfolio-item-full with some value ‘yes’ or ‘no’ or ‘hello’. If you want to convert the page to having a sidebar simply click the delete button.

    You only need to enter the portfolio-item-full into the theme once, (as image 4 shows) it will automatically show up in the select box after the first time you enter, and all you have to do on other portfolio pages is select it, and add any value into the value field. For pages which you do not want a full page without a sidebar, make sure that portfolio-item-full had no value and is not present.

    Please let us know how it worked out,

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi,

    It only sounds complicated but once you see it in action, nothing could be simpler. I am sure I am being long winded explaining it. Lemme see if i can spit out a quick 30 sec video showing the entire process since the instructions are a bit on the technical side also.

    Thanks,

    Nick
