    Hello :)

    When you add a widget in one of the footer columns, is it possible to have it in a widget box just like when you add a widget in the sidebar, a box with a wide background? If so, how would I go about doing that? When I place a widget in a footer column it is not within a box.

    Thanks,

    Leander

    Hi,

    you can add this to your Quick CSS or custom.css

    #footer .widget {
    background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #FFFFFF;
    padding: 0pt 5px;
    }

    #footer .widget_archive li a, #footer .widget_categories li a, #footer .widget_pages li a, #footer .widget_links li a, #footer .widget_meta li a, #footer .widget_recent_entries li a, #footer .widget_nav_menu li a{
    color:#222;
    }

    That last part is to color your links black so they’re visible on white. You can always modify it to your liking.

    That’s great! Thanks so much, Chris.

    Is there also a way to have some space between the widgets if you have more than one widget in one column?

    Thanks for the support,

    Leander

    Hello again, there is one minor problem with showing the white boxes in the footer. It shows everywhere except not on single posts. It shows the white box, but the text link remains white too…

    Hi Leander,

    Can you try adding !important right after the color#222 where you added the previous css. Once added it should be:

    #footer .widget {
    background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #FFFFFF;
    padding: 0pt 5px !important;
    }

    #footer .widget_archive li a, #footer .widget_categories li a, #footer .widget_pages li a, #footer .widget_links li a, #footer .widget_meta li a, #footer .widget_recent_entries li a, #footer .widget_nav_menu li a{
    color:#222 !important;
    }

    Just to be sure they are getting priority on all the pages.

    Thanks, Devin! That worked!

    Is there also a way to have some space between the widgets if you have more than one widget in one column? Like the same amount of space between widgets in the sidebar?

    In that case, you’ll need to change the first one to:

    #footer .widget {
    background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #FFFFFF;
    padding-top: 5px !important;
    padding-right: 5px !important;
    padding-bottom: 5px !important;
    padding-left: 5px !important;
    }

    I separated each padding out so you can adjust them as you like. Just change the number to the pixel height you think looks/works the best for you.

    Thanks Devin… it’s close, but not quite what I meant. With the space between the widgets in one column I meant seeing the dark gray from the backrgound. With the code you gave me I adjusted the bottom padding, but the space remains white. I would like it to be just like the widgets in the side bar that also vertically align with the gray space from the background so you see they are separate from each other. I hope I make sense lol.

    Oooh I figured it out… I added:

    margin-bottom:20px;

    And now it works!! Wow, I learned alot today :) Thanks for the support!!! Appreciate it.

    Good to see it all solved, I’ll mark the topic as resolved.
