Hello! I’m having a difficult time setting up Enfold.

I’m not new to WP or making websites. This is my first time to buy a premium theme though. Previously I’ve always use the free themes that came with WP and then modified however I wanted. Before WP I made web sites with html and php includes. I thought I knew what I was doing but it seems WP and themes have so much more complex that now I feel totally lost and like a complete idiot.

I looked at the documentation, and if I’m looking at the right files, I clicked it and it opened an IE page which has some information but I can’t find the type of information that I am looking for.

For example, currently my site is showing a pages menu on the right, which has my pages it in but also has a lot of pages that I didn’t create – Enfold pages. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with those or how to get them off of my site. One of them is called: home-v4-small-slider – if it is clicked on it goes to a page created by enfold. What am I supposed to do with that page? If I like the format can I edit it to become part of my site? If so, I don’t see how to do that.

If I go into Appearance –> Menu, I see all those pages listed under Main Menu (which is just more confusing because based on what shows under General Layout I thought the menu called ‘main menu’ ran across the top, not on the side) which seems easy enough to remove but then if they are editable, what if I want them back to use at a later date? How would I get them back? Will they still show up under pages –> show all? Or are they gone for good? Why are they showing up there anyway?

There are a zillion little things like this that I’ve spend a lot of time trying to figure out with little or no success. What am I missing? Am I looking at the wrong documentation? Am I that out of touch with WP themes that I can’t figure how to do things that seem simple to others?

Thanks for your time and patience reading this!

    Hi trisha2766!

It sounds like the problem is that you imported one of the demos and now you do not want all of the pages to display in your menu correct?

Navigate to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus and create a new menu here. When you save your menu look to the bottom and make sure the “Enfold Main Menu” option is checked.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for replying!

I’m still having so many other problems though. I don’t even know where to begin.

I love all the features and functionality but am frustrated with not being able change the layout exactly how I want it. Some of the terminology confuses me too. Sometimes the footer means the default 3 columns at the bottom, other times it means only the small bar at the very bottom. And then one of the footers started showing a list of all my pages, then interesting links (not links I created) and I spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out how to get those out of there, finally gave up and just got rid of the footers altogether.

I want to be able to just edit the html and the css so I can do what I want to with it. If I got a child theme could I do that? CSS files are so much more complex than they used to be though, I don’t know if I could find my way around them enough to be able to edit what I want.

    Hey!

The footer holds a set amount of “widgets” which you can setup in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets. You can change the number of widgets in Dashboard > Enfold > Footer.

The small bar beneath the footer is called the socket and you can set it to display some copyright information and also a menu on the right hand side.

If you want to use HTML tags in the footer widgets then drag the “Text” widget to the footer widget areas and insert your HTML inside.

    Best regards,
    Elliott
