If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
I’ve read a lot of threads to do with image cropping and the portfolio (I’m using the Habitat theme) and I’ve become confused by it all.
Here’s what I want to do:
On my site the portfolio page will be a software page – when looking at the portfolio page I want the image for each portfolio item to be a thumbnail screenshot of the software (not cropped). When clicking on the item and going to single post view I want the screenshot to show full size or at least scaled proportionally(again not cropped).
I’ve disabled ‘Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions’ in media settings and I’m looking in functions.php now. The problem is that the screenshots for the different pieces of software will all be of different sizes – in each case I want a non cropped thumbnail and a non-cropped full size image.
Currently I cant seem to get this to work without images getting cropped. What would be the best way to accomplish this?
because of WordPress thumbnail handler/generation function it’s not possible to get thumbnails with fixed dimensions without cropping them. Basically images would be distorted if WP wouldn’t crop them. On the other hand it’s not possible to use different sized thumbnails for each portfolio item.
