Is it possible to keep an image as the thumbnail button when using videos instead of images. I noticed when I embedded a video from Vimeo, the thumbnail button turned into a really small video that acted as a button. I just want to be able to use a still of the video as a button and click on it to go to the video. Is this possible?

I’m glad someone else has asked this because it’s been bugging me for ages. It doesn’t matter what you define the link should do regarding the featured image (link to post, open in lightbox etc) it always starts playing the video in the thumbnail?!? This is a major issue for anyone who wants to showcase videos rather than just images.April 9, 2012 at 4:07 am #70998
It would just be nice to get an answer from support. It’s the second time I haven’t gotten an answer and it’s extremely frustrating because I need this done to graduate school. I wouldn’t think it would be that difficult to be able to click on an image and go to a video. Is there anything I can do? Can I make my own gallery somehow, even thought I would really want to keep the current gallery. Is there anything you know of? I need to figure this out.April 9, 2012 at 6:50 am #70999
For now it’s not possible to use a thumbnail if you embed a youtube/vemeo player. A potential workaround would be to use the lightbox to display the videos or to add a featured image and a video to the portfolio items (eg user clicks on the thumbnail, the article will be loaded and displayed near the top of the portfolio grid and the user can use the slideshow button to switch from the featured image to the embedded video). Another workaround would be to change the thumbnail behaviour (Angular Options > Layout & Settings – search for the “Slideshow behavior on overview pages” option and select “Display only single image on overview pages and all slideshow images except the first one on single entries”. This option will hide the first preview thumbnail and you’ll see the featured video only. I’ll report your feature request to Kriesi.
