I’m using the slideshow on my blog (http://kemwer.com.br/), and for some reason I can’t understand some images I upload don’t respect the standard height for the slideshow, such as the one on my latest post (http://bit.ly/KzWJz6).
The post format is Standard so it shouldn’t be trying to fit the entire image, and even if that was the case, the original file is higher than that (as you can see by hitting the link on it).
I had the same problem on a different earlier post, and I simply can’t figure what is the logic for that to happen. I want all slideshow images to retain the same standard size unless I specifically use Gallery post type, which is how I assume it should work. Am I doing something wrong here?June 1, 2012 at 6:18 pm #76762
Each of the images is resized based on its individual size and the blog layout. So a portrait image will be taller than a landscape as it has to grow in order to fit. If you want the images to get a hard crop, you’ll need to open up functions.php and change the crop to true in these lines as well as the height:
$avia_config['imgSize']['post-format-image'] = array('width'=>630, 'height'=>999, 'crop'=>false); // big images for post format image and gallery posts
and the crop to:
$avia_config['imgSize']['featured'] = array('width'=>930, 'height'=>340, 'crop'=>true); // images for fullsize pages and fullsize slider
Adjust the heights if you’d like as well. If you want this to effect past posts, you’ll have to regenerate the images using http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

But the images are always being cropped, just a couple for reasons I don’t understand don’t get cropped *as much* as the others.
Usually all images with Post Format are cropped to 223 pixels, which looks great. The post I linked previously (http://bit.ly/KzWJz6) is still cropped from its original size, but to 380px instead. There was one other post (http://bit.ly/KRNbPY) that was only scaled down from 640 by 350px to 610 by 324px, without being cropped at all.
From what I understand, changing the options above would make all posts be cropped to whatever dimensions I set, even Gallery Format ones, which would kinda defeat its purpose, no? I want to understand the repercussions of this modification before giving it a try, since I’ll need to regenerate thumbs for each change.
Thanks.June 6, 2012 at 7:24 pm #76764
The gallery and image post formats have cropping set to false as is so if you changed it to true it would start to crop them. The images for the standard posts do not have any setting to crop them to 223 pixels. It just so happens that the images you have been using all have similar height to width ratios that when scaled down to fit the width available have around the same height.
The image you linked has a different starting size and so gets scaled down differently but still cropped at 340 pixels tall which is the setting in functions.php for “images for fullsize pages and fullsize slider”.
I hope that clears it up a bit.
