    Having tried the recommended e-commerce solutions, we are now setting up a shop with Big Cartel ( http://bigcartel.com/ ). It looks very promising, we just need a bit of help with making the BC shop layout as similar to our existing Velvet styling as possible. Has anybody had an experience integrating the two, please?

    Many thanks,

    Hi Ce,

    I’m not familiar with the Big Cartel Shopping Cart. You can try to integrate it to the theme, and I believe it would be integrated well, but when it comes to the design, I think it would really look different. Anyway, if you have integrated it, just post here and we will try our best to help you make the look of your shopping cart appropriate to the theme. :)

    Hi Ismael,

    Thank you! It’s not just the shopping cart, it’s the whole shop section we are using it for. Technically it works fine (shopping, checking out, etc.), we just need to blend it as much as we can with the existing layout of the site.

    The main “Velveted” site is here: http://theuncommonthread.co.uk/

    The shop bit (Big Cartel) is here: http://shop.theuncommonthread.co.uk/

    Ideally, we would need to make the BC Shop section to look similar to the Portfolios in Velvet, e.g.: http://theuncommonthread.co.uk/yarns

    So, the main questions I can think of right now are:

    1) where are the product boxes in the Yarns page above styled in Velvet (picture size and the box below with the Excerpt description)?

    2) where are the top (under the nav menu) /bottom (above the footer) and side lines styled in Velvet?

    3) can we just somehow “port” the navigation menu & footer directly from the WP into their BC template with the absolute URLs?

    Many thanks,

    Hi Ce,

    Most of the styling is pretty simple. The header has a 1px solid border colored #eee on the bottom to give it that line. The portfolio is just a shadow and border so you can apply the same most likely to your shop containers:

    .template-portfolio-overview .post-entry {
    -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px #aaa;
    -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px #aaa;
    box-shadow: 0 1px 2px #aaa;
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #F8F8F8;
    border-top: 1px solid #eee;

    If you are not already, look into something like Firebug for Firefox or just the native inspect element in Chrome to pick out the individual styles used in Velvet.

    As for the URL’s, you could potentially just copy over the same navigation by viewing the source of your site then copy+paste the navigation over. Then just make sure to include the same css styles so that the menu looks and acts the same.

    Hi Devin,

    Thank you, will have a try!

    Let us know how it works for you and if you have any more questions.
