On my portfolio page it has the items listed in alphabetical order. I would like them from newest to oldest but don't see this setting. How can I achieve this?

I suggest you get a Taxonomy Terms Order plugin.
That's the one I'm using. Have a look here http://www.zorrrrro.com. If that's what you're looking for here's a link to get it from...
http://www.nsp-code.com/premium-plugins/wordpress-plugins/advanced-taxonomy-terms-order/Then you just go to your Dasboard, then Plugins and install.
