With the advanced layer slider, I would like to type one phrase and have it static while each slide transitions. I saw where I can upload a logo, but I do not see where I can type something that stays put while each slide changes.

You could try adding a widget to the header and then position it over the slider: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/adding-a-widget-area-to-the-header/. We can help you out with styling once you’ve added it. Please link to your site if you should need any further help.
