This thread is devoted to the numerous issues that I've encountered when trying to get this theme working the way that I want it to. If you are having trouble with aspects of your own, you may find the answer here.
Sorry for the multiple posts as I can't edit my previous and I want to keep all the info for my various questions together. Some of the answers will no doubt raise further questions, I'll try to keep this obvious.

My initial questions:
1. My navigation bar had disappeared
2. How to remove popup boxes on the home page
3. Ratings are not working at all
4. How to change the size of the featured image in the post page itself
5. How to change the way that the thumbnails are generated so that the created one is more useful (the rollover image there is much better than the standard top left corner image)
6. Alternatively how to force it to use the alternative thumbnail option which doesn't seem to be working
7. How to make search work on tags
Create a new thread and tell me what problems you are encountering and what you want to know. 
There is no step 3 :)
