I’ve recently migrated a site from a development URL to the client’s own URL and now we’re unable to edit existing templates as the left hand menu options (theme options and template builder) inside the framework options are no longer visible.
When I click on ‘Template Builder’ for example, the buttons are all grey and cannot be clicked.
The client wants me to edit a block of text which I had added using the builder as direct text entry but without access to the builder I can’t make the change.
(I migrated the site by uploading the whole wp-contents directory as well as uploading the database to the new site using a search & replace script).
Probably the problem is caused by serialized data. We save the theme/builder options as serialized strings in the database and if the domain name changes you’ll also break the serialized strings. Try following plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-migrate-db/ to migrate the db – it should take care serialized data (both arrays and objects) and update the string length values for you.
