The only shortcode included with Newscast is for quotes.
This may be something that gets changed in a future update, I'll leave it to Kriesi to let you know what's coming in possible future updates.

Hey!
Currently I have no intention to add the latest shorcodes to the newscast theme, siply because it would reuire quite some changes to the theme framework which were made with later themes.
