I recently purchased your theme called Newscast 4 in 1 WordPress Magazine and Blog, but it’s looking like it may not work for what I need.
I am going to be issuing articles like a magazine, rather than blogs, and I need the ability to “place each article in the location of my choosing”. It doesn’t appear as if Newscast will allow me to do this – or will it??
For the Sliders – I need these to “never change” as they will not only “feature Popular Articles” but they represent my company as a whole. Basically, the sliders will never change.
For the articles posted below the sliders, I need these to be “Popular Articles” that I place there myself, and “not automatically placed by the theme’s program”. Each Popular Article featured on the front will not only need to be placed here, but also behind the scenes in its proper category.
Behind the front page, and within each category, I need to “place the article in its correct sequential order” or it will not make sense to the readers.
Does Newscast have the ability to accommodate this and give me this type of control? If not, do you by chance have another theme that does? Or perhaps you can recommend a theme that works better for my needs.August 26, 2011 at 10:48 am #51062
Newscast can do some of the tasks you need but requires some hacks.
It can’t however:
a) Display several sliders. It only offers a frontpage slider.
b) Like every other wordpress theme you can “place the article in its correct sequential order” by using the publishing date. There’s no other way to control the order.
1) You can modify the slider so that it displays certain pages only –
in index.php replace:
$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=".$k_option['mainpage']['feature_cats_final']."&posts_per_page=".$k_option['mainpage']['feature_count']);
$additional_loop = new WP_Query(array('post_type' => 'page','posts_per_page' => 5, 'post__in' => array(50,51,52,53,54)));
Instead of 50,51,52,53,54 insert the ids of the pages you want to display. Yoiu also need to ajust the posts per page value (5 at the moment) depending on the number of slides you’d like to show.
2) The easiest way to control which posts should appear on the frontpage is to replace following code in index.php:
$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=".$negative_cats."&paged=$paged");
$additional_loop = new WP_Query( array( 'post__in' => array( 2, 5 ), 'paged' => $paged ));
and instead of 2, 5 fill in the post ids of your 2 posts. Set the number of fullwidth entries (Newscast Options > MainPage Options) to any value which is higher than 2.
