    Hi

    I have a couple of questions:

    1. My site is now live but if I click on a portfolio entry, and click one of it’s categories e.g. digital art, the dates in the sidebar are the same dates as the blog and do not correspond to any of the dates of when the portfolio pieces were published. How can I change this??

    2. As you can see from the link below, it pulls in the thumbnails and enlarges them which is making them blurry. Can I get it to pull a different sized image at all?

    Kind regards

    Hi Kate,

    The sidebar is independent of the portfolio archive. So you would need to add a widget into the sidebar for ‘display everywhere’ that you would want to appear next to the archive.

    Try opening includes>format-standard.php and replace:

    $slider = new avia_slideshow(get_the_ID());

    with

    $slider = new avia_slideshow(get_the_ID());
    $slider->setImageSize('fullsize');

    Hi Devin

    I’m afraid neither of those have worked.

    Hi,

    This is caused primarily due to the difference in proportion in your starting images. I am not sure what you wanted there originally, but you can try this:

    .slideshow.fade_slider {
    max-height: 210px;
    width: 44% !important;
    height: 210px !important;
    }

    If it won’t work, which is highly possible. You would need to install this plugin, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-image-sizes/ which will take all the dimensions found in the theme and place them in Settings > Media. So you won’t have to edit functions.php again. It also comes with a regenerator. But most important you will be able to set the settings much more easier.you basically uploaded an image that was smaller than the width and height you defined.

    Please let us know how it went.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Thanks Nick I will try that.

    Nothing has resolved the archive issue though I’m afraid.

    Hey Kate,

    I guess I didn’t explain well enough before, custom post types (portfolio in this case) can not duplicate the normal post type archive functions. So no sorting by year/date unless it gets custom coded in that way.

    Devin

    Hi Devin

    Is there a way to remove this archives from the portfolio pages then?

    Also I noticed on the blog pages that the archives go to the homepage when clicked on: http://www.cutecreations.co.uk/blog/

    How can this be fixed?

    Kind regards

    Hi,

    Ok, this is just about the abnormally large images. Please add this to custom css.

    #top.archive div.slideshow_container {
    max-width: 296px !important;
    max-height: 210px !important;
    }

    #top.archive div.slideshow {
    max-width: 296px !important;
    max-height: 210px !important;
    }

    Now just remove that archive widget that redirects to homepage, and create a custom menu which shows all the categories and put it there instead of the months, and it will look fine.

    Just in case this will get rid of the faulty months menu from the archive pages,

    #archives-2 {
    display: none;
    }

    and instead stick a widget there, since the page doesn’t exist in the sense you can edit it, you can target the widget to that page using Widget Logic http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-logic/ .. after installing it, you will get a text box on bottom of every widget in backend, and to target this particular page, which is taxonomy archive, just add the conditional tag below to that text box

    is_tax()

    And the widget will take the place of the dysfunctional Months.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick

    Thank you that has removed the archives from the portfolio pages but now the blog page is showing the list of pages, archives and categories in the sidebar even though the only thing which is showing in the blog widgets is archives: http://www.cutecreations.co.uk/blog/

    Kind regards

    Hi Nick

    Fixed using this thread: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/archive-sidebar

    I think I will go without using archives altogether :-)

    Kind regards
