    Hi, I followed the documentation for creating my first portfolio. I created a category, configured the Portfolio options & created a page with a dynamic template that uses a portfolio section. I then created two portfolio items, each having a single image and of the same category.

    When I display the page, only the excerpts seem to appear in their correct place with a title link to the image. I cannot see the image of the portfolio item until I click on the link, which takes me to domain/?portfolio=[portfolio-item name]; the image is then shown without the excerpt.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi sladak,

    Can you post a link to your portfolio page (or the page that has the problem), I can’t seem to see it when I checked your site.

    Regards,

    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

    Thank you for your support – I have republished the page “Portfolio”, so that you can see the problem http://eqhow.com/?page_id=84. What you probably saw is my new idea to try columns on the “Emotional Intelligence assessments” page; they prototype what I was trying to achieve, though I prefer the portfolio approach of clicking on the image for more details.

    Kind regards,

    Salim

    Hi Salim,

    Make sure that when you are on the individual portfolio item you are adding your image to the featured media meta box under the visual editor and not just adding your image into the visual editor or making it the featured image.

    The theme needs to have the images loaded into its specific meta box so that they can be used for the theme specific areas and functions.

    Devin

    Hi Devin,

    I had added the image through the ‘Add Media’ button, above the Visual Editor. Is this what you meant? I have various images stored there in a media library.

    Salim

    For clarification, I believe that my images were already added correctly through the Add Media button.

    To help resolve this topic, I have provided my portfolio link above.

    No, that is the incorrect spot to add images to be used by the theme. There are two meta boxes under the visual editor that has all the theme related functions for the portfolio items. Use the options there to add your portfolio images, arrange them and change the slideshow options.

    Hi Devin,

    Just by adding the image through slideshow, it displayed immediately! For my new link http://eqhow.com/?page_id=56, here are my follow-up questions:

    1. When you hover over the item, the link shows eqhow.com/?portfolio=eq-360-report. Why is this different from your demo site where the link shows …propulsion/portfolio-item/… If it helps you, my page slug is also “portfolio-item”.

    2. When you click on the item link, the picture is too large. I had added the eq-360-report image as a thumbnail.

    3. Are we allowed to display portfolios on different pages? If so, then under portfolio options, what page should display the portfolio? If not, then what would you suggest instead?

    Thanks,

    Salim

    Hi Salim,

    1) You can change the permalink settings in Settings>Permalink. Not all web servers are set up the same so it may need some specific steps based on yours. See: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

    2) The image size setting the upload/add image dialog is completely ignored. The theme adds in the image based on the size it needs. For the portfolio items, this is an image of at least 930 pixels wide and then it adjusts the height based on that size. Ex: A 930 pixel wide and 300 pixel tall image would show as 930 by 300 where an image originally 600×100 would stretch to 930 wide and the height would grow to fit the new size in the same proportions.

    The only way to display a smaller image above would be to put that image on a white or blank canvas in an image editor that is 930px wide.

    3) I’m not sure what you mean. You can add portfolio categories to display on multiple pages with the Theme Options>Portfolio as well as adding a portfolio element with the template builder to a dynamic template.

    Thanks Devin,

    By #3, my concern was that under Portfolio Options, it only lets you select one page: “Which page should display the portfolio?” How do you then display on multiple pages?

    Kind regards,

    Salim

    You can add additional groups of options for other pages by hitting the green plus sign (+) on the bottom right of that group of portfolio options. It needs a more clear name, but each group of options goes with one page (when in the portfolio tab) and you can have multiple sets that all display on different pages.

    Hi Devin,

    Thanks to your support, you can now see the 3 portfolio items on my new link http://eqhow.com/?page_id=56. What option do I use to re-sequence them so that the first one appears last?

    Regards,

    Salim

    You can use this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-types-order/ to reorder the posts manually or use following filter function:

    /change default sorting for portfolio
    function loop_portfolio_query( $location ) {
    if ( $location == 'loop-portfolio' ) {
    global $avia_config;
    if(isset($avia_config['new_query'])) {
    $avia_config['new_query']['orderby'] = "date";
    $avia_config['new_query']['order'] = "DESC";
    query_posts($avia_config['new_query']);
    }
    }
    }
    add_action( 'avia_action_query_check' , 'loop_portfolio_query', 10, 1 );

    to sort the posts based on the publishing date (latest post will be displayed first). You can add the code to the bottom of functions.php.

    Thanks, Dude -

    You gave me the idea that the “publishing date” logic might already be in the code. Sure enough, I deleted & republished the last item & the items now appear in the correct sequence. However, your plugin sounds much more convenient.

    Hello, I have one more question:

    I noticed that any other page that has a portfolio section in its dynamic template seems to pull in the same portfolio??? This is although there is no category selected in the portfolio section of that template – I even saw this occur with the frontpage template when it is used for other pages. The portfolio option clearly identifies the intended page, and I have only one entry as I haven’t hit the + sign.

    Hi sladak,

    If the template has a portfolio element in its template, it will always show the portfolio of your site by default. If you don’t want a portfolio to show at all the element has to be removed from the template. Selecting no category just means that it should show *all* categories.

    If you have any other questions, just make a new topic and we’ll do our best to answer :)

    Regards,

    Devin
