I have 2 plugins: dagon sitemap and sitemap XML - they are not being able to catch my portfolio category with its posts.
Can you tell me why? Do you have another sitemaps plugins that can work fine with your theme?
This is very important to me, as I need my portfolio posts to be indexed as well.

you can use this plugin http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/ in combination with:http://www.getupandrunning.net/2010/06/adding-custom-content-types-to-the-sitemap/
