Hi There - I've searched for this but can't find the answer yet.
I'm using the angular theme (great theme BTW) and when I add a new portfolio item - the thumbnail it generates is poor quality. It looks slightly low in resolution. The image for the actual portfolio item is fine when you view it but it's just the thumbnails are not so good.

Please advise how I can fix this? Is there a particular image size dimension that works best (currently all my images are 700wide with varying heights depending on whether it's portrait or landscape).

Hi ShortieD,

Try to upload image using 930px base width. I checked your site and I think the original image is a bit blurry especially the text. Try to use a higher resolution image to get better results. :)

Hi Ismael - I've just updated to a 1000px wide image with a 225kb size (which I think it too big). Have a look now, it's still blurry - do I need to save my images at a larger size? Won't this make my site load slower??

I'm not sure why its still blurry. I'll just tag the rest of the support team to look at this issue.

Hi Peter - I'm' gonna need a bit more guidance to work through the post you directed me to - according to the post - I'm supposed to amend the functions.php file with the following codes - what line do I amend as I can't find a "the_post_thumbnail" in my functions.php file

add_filter('jpeg_quality', function($arg){return 100;});

Hi ShortieD,

You should be able to just add the first line to your functions.php file and then all further images uploaded will not be compressed.

If it causes any issues, you would add the second one. That should be it :)

Sorry to jump in here! I wanted to fix an image resolution issue, so I took your above piece of code to add to my functions.php and now I'm getting this error on my website (www.katienelsondesign.com)

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/katesi4/public_html/wp-content/themes/angular/functions.php on line 16

I tried taking the line out but I continue to get the error. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Katie,

I'm getting a different error when I view the site now. Try re-installing wordpress and if that doesn't get the site back up delete the other theme files (including this one) from your wp-content>themes folder so that wordpress loads up the default one again. I'm not sure what is causing the error but it looks like maybe a file got edited in the wrong place or perhaps a plugin isn't playing nice with the theme/other plugins.

Hi Devin - I added the following to my functions.php

add_filter('jpeg_quality', function($arg){return 100;});

Then I got an error message so I removed it and added

function jpeg_quality_callback($arg)
{
return (int)100;
}

add_filter('jpeg_quality', 'jpeg_quality_callback');

The site works again but the quality hasn't increased. It's mostly the home page where I'm using the 2 column portfolio.They look fine on iPad.

I hope there's a solution soon - I may have to think about changing themes...

Did you regenerate the thumbnails with: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

You can try to switch the theme but probably this won't solve the issue because it's a wordpress core issue and thus affects all themes which rely on the standard wordpress thumbnail generation feature.

HI Ismael - actually - I'm still having this problem - but this time in the root directory, I uploaded the site to the root directory (I was working in a subdirectory) and now the thumbnails are losing quality again. I used BackUp Buddy to move the site ( which didn't carry the images over properly) so I re-uploaded them, re-uploaded the amended functions.phph (just in case this helped) and regenerated the thumbnails with the plug in. The quality is still no ok. Can you suggest any other options?

This is a portfolio site so as you can image image quality is important!

hello folks - any ideas??? is there something I should be doing in the Meda settings? I love the theme but this is pretty disappointing!

Hi Katie,

Try changing the height and width in your functions.php for the portfolio from:
array('width'=>465, 'height'=>346);
to
array('width'=>464, 'height'=>345);

Its the only thing I can think of that might be effect the quality discrepancy from the actual file and then how they are displayed.
