Problems Installing Theme

   Having trouble right from the start.

   I am new to this, but didn't expect to get hung up on the install of a $35 theme.
   After uploading the zip file:

   Preview shows me this: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/content/m/m/a/mmagliozzi1/html/_aaa/wp-content/themes/broadscope/framework/php/class-superobject.php on line 83

   and once I activate the theme it gives me this:
   Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '&', expecting T_VARIABLE or '$' in /home/content/m/m/a/mmagliozzi1/html/_aaa/wp-content/themes/broadscope/framework/php/class-metabox.php on line 158

   Also it then locks me out of wordpress altogether until I delete the theme manually from the FTP.
   In a few other posts you mention an update. Where do I find the updates? Do I just re-download the theme from themeforest?

   Also, if there is something on the hosting end that is causeing this, can you be very clear about what I need to look for or do?

   Hey,

   Sorry to hear you're having problems.

   Can I check a few things with you:

   1.) Is this a clean (as in new) WP install or changing a theme for an existing site?
   2.) What's the site URL?
   3.) What version of WP are you using (should be 3.1 +)
   4.) If you deactivate your plugins does this affect things at all (if you can't access WP Admin rename your themes & plugins folders via FTP this will reset the theme back to default)

   Thanks for getting back to m so quickly James.

   - This is a fresh download of wordpress (3/14/2011) and I am installing it on a folder of my existing site that is not run on wordpress.
   - The URL is magliozzidesign.com/aaa
   - Since I just downloaded the new files from Wordpress, this is 3.1
   - I have not modified wordpress at all, except for installing this theme. So the only plugins currently activated are the default ones.

   I did notice that my server needed a wordpress update (as per their hosting control center). I will have to see if that fixes it, and will be getting into it after work tonight.

   Thanks for your help, I'll report back if I continue to have issues.

   Ok, It looks like the wordpress install is functioning properly, and I am still getting the same errors with your theme. I have successfully installed another theme and it went smoothly.

   http://www.magliozzidesign.com/_aaa/

   That is the domain I am working on. It is definitely wordpress 3.1 and there are no plugins currently active.
   I'd love to get started customizing the theme, and this issue is rather disappointing. I mean, for the money I spent on this, it should be ready to go. Is there any refund you can give me?

   Since I have yet to receive a response, I have used your contact form to request a refund. I have also contacted Envato's support forum for the same reason. I expect at least some response by tomorrow.

   Hey!

   When looking at the error message you posted above it seems your server is running an older version of php (looks like something below version 5)
   If you tell your host to simply switch the version to php 5+ it should probably work, unfortunatley this is a requirement for the theme (since the next release of wordpress will no longer support php4 as well you should do that anyways even if you choose not to use the template).

   I am having the same issue. I am trying to install on Godaddy Hosting and i have the DB created running PHP5. Running Version Broadscope 1.0.4 on Wordpress 3.1. No Plugin fresh install on everything. Once I get the error, I have to drop all the tables to get a wp-install page to start over. Please Help

   Sounds very strange. Could you drop me a mail with login data to your wordpress installation, as well as to your ftp so I can take a look myself? Probably just a minor incompatibility with major impact...

    Just a note for everyone who got the same problem: we found out that dmcdougalls installation is in fact a version 4.x installation. Please make sure to tell your host to update to version 5.2. That will not only ensure compatibility with the theme but also with wordpress itself, since wordpress will drop support for php version 4 with one of the next major releases.

    Everything installed fine once I changed the setting in Godaddy to PHP5. The issue for me was creating the database in MySQL that Godaddy had a 5.0 next to it after it was created thus giving me the impression it was current. But Godaddy Defaults to PHP4. To change this. Go to your hosting control panel. The in their menu find "Content" / drop down to "Add On Languages" then select PHP5 then hit Continue/Update. and you will be set. Hope this helps.

    I'm still having troubles installing this theme. am on godaddy, have tried the above suggestions with no luck. don't know how many times i've emailed you directly with no reply. to answer the questions above;
    1. this is a new install
    2. http://www.slowfoodfastlives.com
    3. i am running 3.2.1 wordpress
    4. deactivating plugins did not help

    can you help or provide refund?

    1) Did you check the php version? As far as I know GoDaddy offers PHP4 & PHP 5 so maybe you need to switch the php version manually.
    2) Please insert change following code line in wp-config.php:
    

    define('WP_DEBUG', false);

    to:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

    Your website will display the php errors afterwards and we can investigate the problem.
