I created a photography site using Enfold several months ago not knowing enough at the time about naming my images. Many of them have original filenames from a database in which they had been archived, with captions that I needed and am using on the site. I have recently begun to do SEO, inputting alt text etc. and I decided to re-upload images on my home and about pages with appropriate descriptive filenames to replace those currently on my homepage with the idea of ultimately replacing all my images with newly created filenames for SEO. (Perhaps this is unnecessary, please tell me if it is). I never stripped out any image metadata prior to uploading to the website, originally.
On 22 January, 2016, I uploaded approximately 30 images, all had been images previously uploaded months ago, (and now featured on several different pages on my site) but with different newly created filenames, and all were rejected for http errors, with the site giving me a response: try again later. Not one of the images appeared in the media library.
I just noticed today, that although the image thumbnail still doesn’t appear in the media library, when I click on “Edit more details,” in the blank space where the thumbnail would have been, the image now appears with the permalink being a previously embedded title in the Photoshop metadata, NOT the newly created filename I gave it. The NEW filename under which it was just uploaded, appears to the right of the image in the “save” box. It looks as if this box is giving me an option to save the recently uploaded image to the media library to URL (my site) as my newly named file name, file type (jpg) and file size. However, the permalink still has the embedded old file name.
I am thoroughly confused as to why I am getting errors of this nature and why my newly created filename is being overwritten by metadata. I didn’t realize I needed to strip out the filename in Photoshop.
My questions are hence, threefold:
1) Is it possible to change the permalink once the file is uploaded, with a new image title, rather than upload the image again? I have many many hundreds of images and am willing to do this over time, but do not want to cause permalink issues.
2) Is it a wasted exercise to even re-upload images that I am now inputting alt text to for SEO?
3) The media library has been an issue since I began using Enfold, aside from the current problem. I have had to upload an image 3 or 4 times in order for it to “stick,” in many cases. I do not know why. If not for this problem, I am very happy with the look and feel of the site.I do not know any code – I am the site owner and not a web developer. I am struggling to figure things out and this is a major glitch for me. Any assistance that can be provided will be most welcome.
Thank you in advance. Susan
January 26, 2016 at 5:00 pm #572216Hi smarkisz!
we can’t help you with questions about SEO or anything else than Enfold specific questions. Do you get the same results when activating a default WordPress theme?
Please stick to theme related questions only and feel free to ask other question in other forums.
Cheers!
AndyJanuary 26, 2016 at 7:54 pm #572318Hi Andy, thank you and I will keep to theme topics.
There was another fellow who has been assisting with this issue but the answer is no, the Media library is functioning perfectly outside of the Enfold theme. I have been on the phone with my host and they are telling me (after an hour’s worth of on the phone assistance) that this is a theme issue, not a hosting issue. Kindly look at my site to see what has been happening to anything I upload. Extremely small files appear to occasionally make it to the library, but photographs sized to 2048 x 1365 x 72 for example which is the size of the images on my home page (and your suggested size) are not making it to the library. Kindly try it your self to see. I sent a link with images sized to these proportions and I continue to get html errors. Thanks and best, Susan
January 26, 2016 at 8:01 pm #572325Hey!
deactivate all plugins to check if one is causing this issue. Also there might be some corrupted files, so please delete all theme files completely via FTP, before installing a fresh copy from your themeforest account: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/install-enfold-over-ftp/
Best regards,

I have literally hundreds of photos
on the site already, many customized pages and the site is otherwise
working properly; I also have a child theme installed and have no idea what
to do with that even if I felt capable (which I’m NOT) to do what you’ve suggested. My problem is the the media upload library. Creating pages and adding
content does not seem to be a problem, only that.I cannot imagine doing what you’ve suggested. I am not a web developer and
cannot imagine starting over from essentially scratch. What happens to the
site when I take it down and install a new version? How do I install the
child theme? Having to do this baffles me beyond my capabilities.I need someone to troubleshoot the media library issue on my site. Please.
This was annoying from the beginning as I was ALWAYS getting http errors
and often had to upload a file more than once. Now it’s hugely problematic
as I can’t upload anything.
.
Kindly please help. I don’t have many plugins, only those that were already
there, and the GoDaddy SEO, which I’ve just begun
to use.I do not have the capacity to do what you’re asking.I need someone to look
at my site and tell me what’s happening with the media library. The host
says it is NOT a capacity issue. You guys are the Kriesi experts. It’s a
great site but I need someone to basically walk me through this or I will
be unable to continue to use your theme.Frustratingly yours, Susan
January 26, 2016 at 10:29 pm #572407I am sending humble apologies for dumping my frustrations out on you folks in a heavy handed way. After another convo with my host today, they increased my upload max file, my php limits, max input vars, memory limit and it would appear that the problem with my media library is now resolved. I have not tried to upload more than a handful of images, but a few large images uploaded instantly as a test, which will allow me to address some of the SEO concerns I had regarding filenames etc. The person I spoke with on the phone was extremely helpful, explaining some technical stuff I was unaware of, and allowing me to move forward with optimizing my website. At the very least, I now know what I have to do to continue using this beautiful theme… Susan
