Hey,
the rel attribute is part of the author link - i.e. if the username is "admin" the link looks like:
<a rel="author" title="Posts by admin" href="http://www.kriesi.at/themes/newscast/author/admin/">admin</a>WP adds the rel attribute automatically since WP3.2. You don't need to alter the code.
