    Hi,

    Is there a way to remove the featured image thumbnail from post? It doesn’t look great. However, I would like to keep it on home page and category pages as it’s a good idea for that.

    One of the reasons I want to remove it is because I want to use widen the content area.

    I have already looked for preview image in single.php but could not find it there.

    Thanks

    SUMMARY:

    Remove preview featured image from posts only.

    Keep preview featured image on category pages.

    Hi Vincent,

    Try to add this code in your Quick CSS:

    .template-blog .mini_slider {
    display: none;
    }

    or this one:

    .template-blog .mini_slider {
    display: none !important;
    }

    Hope this helps. :)

    Regards,

    Ismael

    Thanks for trying Ismael but this did not work it only succeeded in removing the featured thumbnail image from post and blog category and still left the width of post narrow. Here is what I would like to try:

    1. Remove featured thumbnail image from BLOG post only.

    2. When featured image is removed the blog expands to a wider size to compensate for the loss of the featured image.

    3. The blog categories ans archives keeps the featured image.

    Thanks and appreciated for your help.

    I did another post about the same issue and the fix was in single.php but I could not find that particular piece of code in single.php.See the post here: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/featured-image-vs-insert-image-in-post

    Hi Vincent,

    Which blog layout are you using? I think we’ll need to see the site live and exactly which layout is running since Abundance has so many different options for the blog layouts (especially if you are using a custom template to output the blog).

    Hi Devin

    I put the link in the first post. Here is the link againt o the blog: http://www.manscape.co.uk/blog/ any one of those posts! Are you sure you understand the question? All I want to do is remove the featured thumbnail iamge on the blog but keep it in the categories etc.

    Once removed I would like the content to widen to take up the extra space?

    Thanks

    Vincent

    In template-blog.php replace following line:

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'index' );

    with:

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'blog' );

    Then make a copy of includes/loop-index.php and rename the copy to loop-blog.php. Open up loop-blog.php and remove following code:

    if(isset($slideHtml) && $slideHtml)
    {
    echo $slideHtml;
    $avia_config['slider_first_post_active'] = true;
    }

    and remove:

    if(strpos($avia_config['layout'], 'small_image') !== false)
    {
    $sliderHTML = $slider->display_small('small');
    echo "<div class='mini_slider'>";
    if($sliderHTML)
    {
    echo $sliderHTML;
    }
    else
    {
    echo "<a class='permalink' href='".get_permalink()."' rel='bookmark' title='". __('Permanent Link:','avia_framework')." ".get_the_title()."'>".__('Permalink','avia_framework')."</a>";
    }
    echo "</div>";
    }

    and remove:

    if(strpos($avia_config['layout'], 'medium_image sidebar') !== false) echo $slider->display_small('blog');

    Hi Dude,

    I followed those instructions exactly as you wrote them but it has made no difference. The featured image thumbnail is still showing in the post: http://www.manscape.co.uk/carter-and-bond/

    Thanks

    Vince

    #87014

    Hi,

    Please look over Dude’s last post, and instead of making the first change – “In template-blog.php replace following line:” , change that line instead in single.php

    so in single php you would be changing

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'index' );

    to

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'blog' );

    And in template-blog.php , the change you’ve made should be reverted. from

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'blog' );

    back to

    get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'index' );

    You would still need to create the loop-blog.php page and edit it exactly how Dude instructed above, all save for that first part.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Thnaks for the response Nick, this has almost worked. The featured thumbnail iamge is nwo removed from the psot – which is good and it still retians itself in the blog category which is good.

    The content is still in the same place now the image has gone: Is there a way to expand (widen) the content so it looks neater?

    Hi,

    Please try:

    .template-blog .entry-content{width:650px} /* before it was 530px */

    You can place it in the Quick CSS in the backend.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi NIck,

    That worked perfectly and the page has resized correctly. I will g through and later all of the images to fit correctly.

    I did notice on the blog catergory page: http://www.manscape.co.uk/blog/ that the images have now stopped aligning with the text and the text is now underneath them. Is there a way to egt this aligned once more?

    Thanks

    Vince

    #87018

    Hi,

    Make it

    .template-blog .entry-content {
    width: 530px;
    }

    Cheers,

    Ismael

    #87019

    Hi Ismael

    Unfortuantely that puts the post back to a narrow length so i could not do that. Is there a way to keep the psot wide and have it so it only affects the blog category.

    Please see blog page here: http://www.manscape.co.uk/blog/ notice all the content is sitting below the images. If I use your code then it also changes it on the post page and makes it too narrow.

    #87020

    Hi,

    Please try adding this to Quick CSS instead of the previous one I wrote:

    #top.single-post .template-blog .entry-content{width:650px} /* before it was 530px */

    that should work but if something else pops out on another page you can also try this variation (though the one below I didn’t try out)

    #top.single-post .entry-content{width:650px} /* before it was 530px */

    By the way, what plugin did you use to inject the g+ api for example into the header? I rarely see such precision work. Was that Yoast or different social media plugin?

    Thanks,

    Nick

    #87021

    Hi Nick,

    That has worked perfectly and thanky ou for your assistance and help.

    For the G+ API I used: Google Analytics for WordPress and yes by Joost de Walk (Yoast). I highlky recommend it as it has some very neat custom variables that can be intergrated with the analytics account.

    #87022

    Glad Nick was able to get that resolved for you :)

    Regards,

    Devin

    #87023

    Hi,

    I also prefer Yoast SEO plugin. I am glad it worked out. Site looks sharp.

    Good luck,

    Nick
