I’m using a slideshow shortcode to make small rotating slideshows on static pages. My problem is, the small slideshow is using bg_gradiant_stripe_top.png as part of its background, which I have modified, and it doesn’t look appropriate. Is there a way to have the slideshow use its default background, whic is just white with a grey rule, instead of the png file?

You could modify line 600 of style.css (found in wp-content/themes/avisio) from:
background: #fff url("../images/skin1/bg_gradiant_stripe_top.png") repeat-x 0 0;
background: #fff none repeat-x 0 0;
