    Hi, the site i am creating just requires a single image per product and as each image is a different size we want to be able to customise individually for size and add a drop shadow using the advanced image function in wordpress.

    However in Propulsion theme you add the featured image using the slideshow. Although the slideshow is effectively disabled if you only add one image, I can’t seem to work out a way of allowing me into the advanced image settings of wordpress. In a normal wordpress page, you get to click on the image you have selected and then get into the advanced image options from there.

    So wondering whether the best solution would be to take out the slideshow function altogether – so that you just get to add a featured image in the normal wordpress way? Or maybe you have a better solution…

    Many thanks!

    Hi Susan,

    I’m not following what you mean by advanced image settings. Is this a plugin or do you mean where you can add classes to the image?

    If you wanted to add a drop shadow, adding a few new css declarations would be the best route to take and then have them only apply to the single images of your product pages.

    Hi Devin,

    Sorry, what I meant by the advanced image function is that when you put an image into a post in wordpress you can click on it, in situ and you get two icons showing, The one on the left takes you to a box with the option “advanced settings” where you can edit to exact size of the image you want and add a drop shadow. So two things here: adding a drop shadow to images listed on the shop page and individual product pages (but not to others). Of course you are right, I could create a custom class for this! Will give this a go and see how i get on.

    however the second thing I want to achieve is to over ride the standard image size set for products featured the shop page and to individually set the size for the image used on the shop page, as they are all different – some portrait, some landscape etc. So I had thought to have a separate small sized image file for the shop page, linking to a large sized image file on the individual product page. My recollection was that woo commerce admin has a box on the left hand side that allows you to set a featured item independently of the main product image.

    However I cannot work out how to do this in this theme.

    Very grateful if you can offer any help on this.

    sorry, I meant the smaller sized image on the shop page linking to the product page with the large image on it…

    Think I have worked it out! I was being a bit dim…

    Have ignored the slideshow bar altogether and just inserted both images via the post/page box at the top. This gives the option of choosing one of them to act as the featured image.

    Only thing is I lose the ability to have the large product detail image showing up full scale across the page which I can only seem to achieve via the slideshow, choosing option adjustable slider. Is there a way around this?

    Hi Susan,

    I’m not sure why you would lose that ability. Let me tag the rest of the support team to see if they have any ideas.

    Hi Susan,

    As far as I know the theme does not use the featured image nor does it need it set. The first image in your Featured media area will be used in the catalog view of your shop which is effectively what the featured image accomplishes with WooCommerce.

    OK, so maybe I need to come back to you to ask for the best way of achieving the effect I want.

    The items in the catalogue are individually sized (some portrait, some landscape etc). The catalogue view needs to show this, rather than having a standard sized square image of each item. So I need to to have the opportunity to create/load a specifically sized “catalogue view” image to show in the catalogue.

    On the product detail page, I want a larger scale image of the product to show. Again, the dimensions of the image will not be standard.

    I could not find a way of doing this via the featured image box. Hence I resorted to inserting the image in the post/page box. This provides the option to set a particular image (in my case a custom sized small scale image of the product) as the featured image. I can then insert a second image into this box which acts as the product detail image.

    This is all rather cumberson and if there is a better way of doing this using the theme’s settings, I’d be much happier using that.

    Re the box shadow, I have created a css rule that works but i want to target the images on shop pages only (overview and single product). Can’t quite find the right way to target these. Could you point me in the right direction? many thanks! Susan

    Hi Susan,

    For the main issue, there isn’t a simple way of doing that. Your best bet is to just use the featured image as the main product image and then specify in the visual editor the details of the product with the images set the way you want them. Otherwise I believe you are looking at a fairly large customized addition to the theme.

    If, in doing it this way, you don’t want the image to show up on the product page but only in the catalog view you can set the slider option to be the large slideshow that covers the whole width of the product page and then use the following css to hide the image on the single page:

    #top.single-product #slideshow_big {
    display: none;
    }

    For the shadow, you can target specific page types by using the main div ID of #top then the class for those pages. So for single product the class is .single-product. You could also try just using #top.woocommerce before your css selector since only woo commerce pages get that class.

    Hi Devin,

    is there a way to hide the first slideshow image on the product page to use it in the catalog view only as featured image? I tried this, but it didn’t work:

    #top.single-product.slide_number_1 #slideshow_big {

    display: none;

    }

    addition:

    the following almost works. the first slideshow-image itself doesn’t appear on the product page (but still on the catalogue-site which is good), BUT there is a big empty field instead (the size of the image) on the product page.

    #top.single-product .slide_number_1 {

    display: none !important;

    }

    any ideas?

    I did not test this mod but you can try to replace following code in wp-contentthemespropulsionincludeshelper-slideshow.php

    if($this->slideshow_poster == 'poster')
    {
    if(avia_is_overview())
    {
    if(is_array($this->slides)) $this->slides = array_slice($this->slides, 0, 1);
    }
    else
    {
    if(is_array($this->slides) && isset($this->slides[1])) $this->slides = array_slice($this->slides, 1, count($this->slides));
    }
    }

    with

    if($this->slideshow_poster == 'poster')
    {
    if(avia_is_overview())
    {
    if(is_array($this->slides)) $this->slides = array_slice($this->slides, 0, 1);
    }
    else
    {
    if(is_array($this->slides) && isset($this->slides[1])) $this->slides = array_slice($this->slides, 1, count($this->slides));
    }
    }

    if(is_product())
    {
    if(is_array($this->slides) && isset($this->slides[1])) $this->slides = array_slice($this->slides, 1, count($this->slides));
    }
