Hi. I had someone working with me on my website ages ago and I need to change my rss feed url. I accessed the header.php and the footer.php and oddly enough, they are blank, yet the links do exist... meaning the template is unchanged, yet the feed link, facebook link and flikr links are correct on the live site, so where was that information coded in, can you direct me to which page that information was entered?

the rss link code can be found in footer.php. Maybe use a ftp software or cpanel to download/upload that file. The code line your searching for is:
<li class='rss'><a class='ie6fix' href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>">RSS</a></li>
<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>
with your url like: http://my-site.com/feed
Here's the problem/situation. I can edit the header and footer, with those instructions, but what troubles me is this, when I pull down the header to edit it, it shows:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS2 Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
<link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />
YET... the live site contains the data already, as follows:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Picturia Press Book Designs" href="http://www.picturiapress.com/feed/" />
<link rel="pingback" href="http://www.picturiapress.com/xmlrpc.php" />
So how is the data getting populated onto the live site, when the header and footer have not been altered? Does that make sense? Thanks.
I pulled down the header and footer and put in the information, but it has had no effect on the link at all. Any chance you might know what the problem is?
I've just worked on resolving it, but my final issue to resolve is that my images are not showing up in my feed. Sorry to bug you, but is this something related to the theme, because in all the forums that's the answer I keep getting and I have no idea if that's actually true.
The code from header.php (and every other theme file ending .php) should execute the code encased in PHP tags which look like this:
which would explain why the code on the live site shows the actual RSS feed URL etc instead of what you see in header.php. The PHP functions are either a part of WordPress core or (depending on exactly what the code is) a custom function for the theme.
Where do you want to point your RSS feed to?
You can add thumbnails to an RSS feed using a custom function, a quick Google search lead me to this tutorial: http://www.strangework.com/2010/02/25/how-to-add-a-post-thumbnail-to-an-rss-feed-in-wordpress/
There's no question that the default RSS is part of WordPress core, I believe any confusion stems from the ability to change / manipulate the data output using custom functions.
I've tried plugins, codes, endless hours on wordpress forums, other blogs, etc. etc. I will pay for someone to create my site so that images show in my RSS feed, it is very important I get this done, is there someone within your group I could hire for this?
